Timeline: late Vol. 7, after his and Oscar's unofficial wedding (nobles and commoners cannot marry without permission from the royal family), but before the Storming of the Bastille. Andre has lost sight in both his eyes and only retains light perception. He can sometimes make out vague silhouettes, but he cannot distinguish details and needs to be warned about incoming attacks.

Alternatively: early Vol. 7, the Estates-General is established as the Dauphin Louis Joseph dies, Marie realizes how her past excesses drained the treasury, but the poor are taxed instead of the powerful nobles, Oscar and Andre are in the French Guard. Andre lost his left eye chasing the Black Knight earlier and loses vision in his right eye from time to time, but hasn't gone completely blind yet.
